Florence Knoll (1917-2019) was an American architect, designer and businesswoman instrumental in defining modern interior design in the 20th century. Trained at the Bauhaus and the Illinois Institute of Technology, she brought the principles of modernism to offices and corporate spaces, combining functionality, clean aesthetics and comprehensive spatial planning. As a partner at Knoll, she revolutionised interior design with her “total design” approach and created iconic pieces of furniture that are now classics of modern design.
