Flavio Poli (1900-1984) was an Italian designer and artist famous for his work in glass, especially in the Murano tradition. He trained at the Istituto d'Arte in Venice and began his career as a ceramicist before devoting himself entirely to glass. He was artistic director of Seguso Vetri d'Artewhere he revolutionised design with the technique of the vetro sommersocharacterised by layers of different coloured glass that create depth and transparency. His pieces combine elegance, modernity and an exceptional mastery of Venetian craftsmanship. His work has received international awards such as the Compasso d'Oro in 1954, consolidating his legacy as one of the great glass masters of the 20th century.
