Gio Ponti (1891-1979) was an Italian architect and designer instrumental in the development of 20th century modern design. He graduated in architecture from the Politecnico di Milano in 1921 and founded the influential magazine Domus in 1928. His work ranged from skyscrapers such as the Pirelli in Milan to light, elegant furniture. He was an advocate of industrial design without losing the poetics of the handcrafted object. Ponti left a versatile and visionary legacy that continues to inspire the design world.
