Gio Ponti (1891-1979) was an Italian architect, designer and theoretician, trained at the Politecnico di Milano, where he also taught. In 1928 he founded the magazine Domus, He played a decisive role in the spread of modern design. His work, which ranges from the renovation of ceramics with Richard-Ginori to buildings such as the Pirelli Tower, is characterised by the search for formal lightness and synthesis between art and industry. His collaborations with innovative producers, including Dino Gavina, The new designs, which were designed by the Italian designers, consolidated their central role in the definition of Italian design in the twentieth century.
